Birth and Parents

Apostle Felix Elvis Antwi was born on August 3, 1948 at Mesewam, a village near Boadi in the Ashanti Region of Ghana, where his mother used to seek spiritual protection. His parents were Elder Charles Edward Antwi (Rtd.) of Aduaben, Ashanti, an ex-Serviceman and Deaconess Dinah Antwi of Atwima Kwanwoma of blessed memory. He was the second born child of his parents’ seven children (of five males and two females) two of whom have predeceased him. His father was a Steel Bending Contractor whereas his mother was a Petty Trader at the Asafo Market, Kumasi.

Education

Apostle Antwi started his formal education at the St. Paul’s R. C. School, New Amakom, Kumasi, in 1954 and completed Middle Form 4 in 1964 obtaining the Middle School Leaving Certificate (MSLC) at the same school. Growing up as a child, he was very sociable and made friends freely. Indeed he got on well with his peers. After Middle School, he undertook a three (3)-year course (amidst financial difficulties) in Radio and Telecommunications at the Radio Servicing Training College (RADISCO), Asokwa, Kumasi from 1964 to 1967 coming out with a City and Guilds Final Certificate in Radio and Telecommunications. Having excelled as a student, he was hired by the College as an Instructor for a period.

Sports and Music

Apostle Antwi was a very good footballer. He was a member of his school teams and played for SS 74, the football club of the Ghana Armed Forces. His talent and gift as a singer showed forth at a tender age. His father used to send him to his work place where his singing attracted a large number of onlookers who gave him money in the process. His father, Elder C E Antwi (Rtd.), recalls that in one instance, young Akwasi’s song on salvation brought an amazed elderly woman to a saving knowledge of Christ. This budding gift of singing was to blossom into a great gift that God used to bless many people. By the grace of God, his daughter, Mrs. Diana Antwi-Hamilton has taken after him and is an acclaimed gospel music artiste.

Employment

When Felix Antwi turned 21, he followed in the military footsteps of his father and got enlisted in the Ghana Air Force on February 27, 1969 as Air Radio Technician. He attended professional courses at the School of Technical Training, Ghana Air Force, Accra and the Fokker Training School in Amsterdam, Holland. He was among the first Ghana Air Force personnel who were trained in Netherland to handle and maintain the Fokker 27 Ghana Air Force plane in the 1970s. In 1978, Apostle Antwi resigned from the Ghana Air Force after nine (9) years of meritorious service. Thereafter, he became a transport owner/operator driving one of his own taxi cabs. In addition, he did trading in clothing shuttling between Accra and Kumasi in the process. By the grace of God, the transport and clothing businesses were successful.

Marriage and Children

In 1971, he got married and wedded the then Ms. Comfort Akyeampong of the Suntreso Assembly of The Church of Pentecost. The marriage was blessed with eight biological children, Eunice, Victoria, Diana, Sammy, Adelaide, Beatrice, Martinson and Grace and one adopted child, Kwame.

Conversion and Call into the Full-time Ministry

His parents were persistent in getting him to become born again. Accordingly, during the Christmas Convention held in December 1967 at Asante Bekwai, he was baptised by immersion by the then Pastor M K Yeboah of the Kumasi District. Later, he received the baptism in the Holy Spirit at the Kookooase Prayers of the Oforikrom Assembly in Kumasi. After moving to Accra to begin work as an Airman, he was called into the offices of Deacon and Elder in the then Accra Central District of The Church of Pentecost. For a period, he presided over the Dzorwulu Assembly of the church in Accra. He was a very active member and leader of the then Witness Movement (the evangelism wing of the Church) at various levels of the Movement. He was called into the full-time ministry of The Church of Pentecost in 1981. He attended the Bible Training School for two (2) months at Abbosey Okai, Accra and assumed duty as District Overseer at Kwamikrom, his first ministerial station in September 1981. After spending five years at Kwamikrom he was transferred to the Accra New Town District in 1986. Thereafter, he was sent to Sierra Leone as Resident Missionary and National Head of the Church in that country. After Sierra Leone, he and his family were moved to Sunyani, Tema, Accra East, Asokwa-Kumasi and Takoradi all as Area Head of The Church of Pentecost. He was called into higher offices of Evangelist and Apostle in 1991 and 1993 respectively. Apostle Antwi was a gifted evangelistic and charismatic preacher whom the Holy Spirit used to bring strong conviction and joy to many. His ministry made a great impact on Christians and non-Christians alike. He was an inspiring conference and convention speaker. He was a serious Christian minister who prioritized his ministerial work highly as it was most important to him.

Ministerial Education, Appointments and Honors

Apostle Antwi held a Bachelor of Theology (BTh.) and Master of Theology (MTh.) degrees from the Canada Christian College. In 2009, he was awarded an honorary doctorate degree from the Trinity Graduate College of Apologetics and Theology of India. Among other appointments, he served as a member of the Executive Council of The Church of Pentecost for ten (10) years.

Call to Glory

During the Executive Council meetings preceding the 40th General Council Meetings of The Church of Pentecost, he felt unwell and was granted permission to go for medical treatment in the USA. In the USA, his condition did not improve and on Thursday, May 2, 2013, four months to his official retirement as a minister of The Church of Pentecost, he was called to glory at the St. Francis Hospital, Hartford, USA. His call to glory was received with so much pain and sorrow, having lost such an illustrious son of this family. We are consoled, however, by the inspiring words of Paul the Apostle to his son, Timothy:

For I am already being poured out like a drink offering, and the time has come for my departure. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing. (2 Timothy 4:6-8, NIV)

May the soul of this cherished son of this family rest in the peace of the Almighty God.
