Aps. Dr. Felix Elvis Antwi
The man who served God's purpose
Tribute from Takoradi Area
“Lord you have been our dwelling place throughout all generations. Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the whole world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God. …a thousand years in your sight are like a day that has just gone by…yet you sweep people away in the sleep of death – they are like the new grass of the morning! In the morning it springs up new, but by evening it is dry and withered.” Psalm 90:1-6
Yes, we are like a dream, like a grass that is renewed in the morning flourishing and in the evening fades a withers.
Apostle Felix Elvis Antwi and family were welcomed into Takoradi Area in September 2009 from the Asokwa area (here in Kumasi). Soon after his welcome service he outlined his four-year vision for the area and quickly moved into action.
The preaching of God’s work and prayer were his top priority. Apostle charismatic personality, exemplary humility, dedication and intense commitment to duty were shining qualities of the grace of God upon him.
He was a man of faith, a shepherd who inspired his flock to greater heights and a soldier of Jesus Christ who fought to the end. To him nothing was too difficult for the Lord and therefore he admonished all to trust the Lord no matter what.
He worked assiduously and in a record period of one and half years, a new ultra modern area mission house was completed. During his three and half years in Takoradi Area, as a man of projects, he encouraged and assisted all the districts to undertake mission houses and church building projects. To the glory of God, presently, there is no assembly in the area worshiping under a tree.
Like king David, Apostle Antwi was a true worshipper. His messages were interspersed with songs. Indeed, worship was his lifestyle. He also encouraged others to take their personal relationship with God seriously. He cherished his calling as a minister of the gospel and treasured the privilege of leading the people of God among whom are intellectuals that he, ordinarily, couldn’t have come close to. He saw his calling into full time ministry as an honor and therefore worked with zeal day by day and encouraged his pastors to do same. His apostolic, evangelistic and prophetic ministry impacted many. He was a pastor and a teacher to many, time conscious and worked daily as if he had only day to live. What a man of action and an achiever. Apostle Antwi was a unifier to the body of Christ and worked tirelessly to advance the kingdom of God within the Church of Pentecost, the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council, network of churches in the Western Region and beyond.
He has an excellent passion for the youth and traveled far and near to attend their programs even at short notices. He never hid his delight in seeing young Christians at the helm of affairs in their organizations and institutions. He enjoyed an excellent relationship with his wife and children. Indeed, he was a family man. We want to take this opportunity to congratulate Mama Comfort Antwi for being a virtuous woman, a faithful companion, an excellent wife and a partner in the ministry to Apostle F. E. Antwi. In fact, Apostle Antwi always attributed his success in ministry to God and his wife, Comfort. Mama, Ayekoo, well done and God bless you. He had a very good relationship with his ministers and their wives.
Apostle Antwi had jargons that spurred on people he came into contact with such as; sure, sure! That’s right! Casheology! Akonosem! Nokwasem! Wasi fom! Wonim fom! Etc
He was flamboyant and was at his “Apostolic best” during the recent Easter Convention preaching, teaching a praying in all five zones in the Takoradi Area with all the vim and with the usual captivating way. No one thought that today we would be gathering here to bid him farewell. We were rather anticipating such a gathering in Takoradi for his retirement service in August this year.
It is true that death is inevitable, yet when it lays its icy hands on a loved one such as Apostle Antwi whose body now lies here motionless, it causes so much apprehension and emotional pain.
However, we know that he has fought a good fight, he has finished the race and now he is gone for his crown in heaven. No wonder he gave his wife, children, family and church this song before he breathed his last.
Your Power is great
Your power is great
Your power is greater than everything
Oh Lord, oh Lord
Your power is greater that everything
May the soul of Apostle F. E. Antwi rest in perfect peace, AMEN!!
